Photobooth

I love a freaking photo booth (how very original of me, I know). Taken in NOLA at Afghan Whigs concert with two awesome ladies. It was only $3 for a set of two strips, which I found to be extremely reasonable.
My favorite thing to do when photoboothing is to have everyone shout out the theme for the frame. Such as surprised, goofy, scared, in love, blue steel, etc. I think it makes it more fun and the pictures better, you know? I'd rather look real in a photograph than look posed. So we look super real here . . . real goofy that is.

madewell

Holy. Shizz. Apparently I am on a faux spending-spree lately because I almost never am obsessed with so many clothes. I am quite picky, have unintentionally expensive taste, and a rather slim wallet. However, I'm going to start saving my pennies for this dress from Madewell:
BEHOLD!

les prairies de paris™ killing me dress via madewell

and it sure is killing me with its price! (Yuk yuk yuk! Tip your waitress! Try the veal! I'll be here all night!)
Les Prairies de Paris™ Killing Me Dress
I love this entire outfit. I want to be in a poly amorous relationship with this outfit. I want to walk my dog in it, and go out to dinner in it, and dance all night in it, and wear it on the plane when jetting to far off places. Also just sit on the couch in it and eat anything my husband makes and watch Jiro Dreams of Sushi.

This is really the look that slays me. I love the front but I LOVE the side!!!! Trapeze dresses are my fave. I asked madewell associate Taylor to tell me what the all cotton material was like (i.e. knit or stiff or what) and she said "the top portion is thicker then a typical cotton shirt. There won't be much stretch to it. The bottom is a ribbed material similar to corduroy." Which means I am SOLD! For real. As soon as I can save up I am buying this dress, that dang catbird ring, throwing on some black tights and THESE badass shoes from nordstrom!

Gaaaah! I am going to look so good. I just need like $500. Bargain!

Tuesday 10/30

Woohoo! It's Tuesday already! My wise and wonderful Father Unit once said, in response to me asking if he was excited for the weekend, that he never wanted to have a job where he looked forward to the weekend starting on Monday. I think that is so smart.

Fancy lunch out today with a dear friend. A simple salad with vinaigrette, goat cheese, and strawberries, a goat cheese and herb quiche slice, and a zucchini and squash soup. It was exactly what I wanted to eat for lunch. Not pictured was dessert! We had a chocolate puddle. Essentially it's the thinnest shortbread crust containing liquid chocolate gold.
Look at these two little Nuggets. I can't handle the cuteness. Snuggling and snoozin, snoozin and snugglin.
A picture from our long walk yesterday. I walked the dog five miles in a last hurrah since it will soon be dark before I leave work (sidenote: daylight savings time I am SO OVER YOU! We are no longer farmers! Let's get rid of this antiquated and horrible idea! No more! Let's start a revolution against daylight savings time please!) The woods are so pretty!
The dog checking to make sure I'm still coming. He is so sweet and concerned on our walks when I pause for too long or get too far behind him.
My favorite part. I adore this bridge. Rumor has it that it was brought in by a helicopter! I can neither confirm nor deny this. I love that idea though.

October Weekend

This weekend was glorious. Why are we not more European and have the whole "three day weekend EVERY WEEK" thing down? And no, you cannot use any excuse that would try to convince me that badass wine, cheese, bread, long weekends, great free health care, and lots of vacation time is a bad thing. There's no way. I'm never going to believe that their taxes really are that bad. Viva la Europe! For those of you who may be thinking "if you like it over there so much, commie, why don't you move there" please do not think I haven't tried that and am currently working towards that.

So we saw family, I took not one but TWO naps, we ate food (surprise!) and enjoyed the gloriously crisp weather. Also I helped cater another wedding because I have a problem. I cannot say no to work. It's an issue.

The delicious pastries at a local bakery. Also way awesome chalkboard drawing skillz.
Um, my friend (and a guest) at the wedding I helped work. And no, I don't know any other faces for the camera other than "awkwardly just released into the public". Believe me. I think my odd tongue is only heightening her beauty and impeccable style. So . . . she's welcome? PS, totally rocked a legit tuxedo shirt for the event. I was for sure the snazziest cater-waiter EVER!
My brother-in-law being completely adorable and showing us his . . . fortress? Fort? Hole? Plan C?
I know this looks like the most gross thing ever, but it wasn't. You're looking at pastrami and hash browns with cheese topped by a fried egg and a side of grits. This weekend was No Carb Left Behind weekend, and we did an admirable job. Veggies? What are those?
Some glorious flowers my mother-in-law had, you know, just hanging out on her dining room table. Oh, snapdragons, roses AND orchids? In one arrangement? You know, just how she rolls. No biggie.

A gift from VT

A co-worker brought back maple sugar candy from a trip to Vermont and it brought back a flood of memories of growing up in Maine and New England in general. I love Mississippi. I love our house, I love the people, I love everything about our life here. But I get really homesick sometimes for the state I grew up in. It's so strange having a family, house, and many years somewhere, but feeling heartsick with longing for another place that feels like home and WAS home for so long.

This piece of candy is way to small to bring up thoughts that deep.

Bowl of Soul

I'm dog tired today, but in high spirits! We parties our butts off last night and I woke up at the ass crack of dawn to meet friends for breakfast. (What the hell is up with all my derrière references this morning?) A ham and Swiss croissant, shot glass of OJ, and coffee with a shot of espresso and chocolate later an I'm feeling much better. It's going to be a great food day and weekend, for sure.

Also I'm wearing my most favorite sweater coat because it's rainy and so fall-ish!

Movings and Shakings

Not to be too brag-a-docious but today we became one step closer to being middle class (golf clap please) because we now have....

A WASHER AND DRYER I.N.S.I.D.E. OUR HOUSE!!!!!!

I know. I know. This is how the 1% lives and it is rich indeed.

We are movin on up people.

Dear Zara

This is precisely what I would like to wear please.

An over sized checked shirt in an autumnal red (love those big low pockets) . . . .

Endearingly ripped baggy jeans . . . . .

Some pattern with a side of pattern . . .

And a pretend cat curled up around my neck in the form of this stole . . . .

Throw on some big sunglasses and a slick of vitamin e oil on my lips, shove my cash and phone in my pocket and be out the door. The perfect outfit for a stroll in this gorgeous fall weather, sitting outside nursing a Harp, or a latte, and taking it all in.

NOLA photo-bomb

New Orleans was great. We ate insane po-boys (as per New Orleans law) drank many delicious things, walked through City Park, hung out, and had a blast. Can't wait to go back. A few photos, but mostly my phone was dead the whole weekend, and it was nice.

Outside Maurepas waiting for a table and catching up. Wearing my "fancy" vintage roebuck overalls and james perse t-shirt. Sweating glowing hard core.
Our little private oasis.
Inside the parkway bathroom (sexy, no?) wearing vintage sears roebuck overalls, shirt from H & M, no name sunglasses, and a Marc Jacobs bag.
Woo! We are in LA!
On the outside of an adventure/camping store.
The prettiest fence!!!
Outside Tipitinas, goobing out.
Iced soy latte, a red velvet iced coffee (not pictured but ridiculously delicious) and an aranciata.
The Man Meal. Bone marrow with duck liver pate on toast and escargot. Yes, yes that's right. It was like fancy surf and turf.
Fried shrimp po-boy from Parkway, om nom nom.
The prettiest pinkberry with the scariest face. The raspberry fell off of the top about three seconds after this photo was taken and it took a lot to not wail like a three year old.
Many many sides to go with our french fries.

Happy Birthday

Dearest Brother Unit,

Hooray! I am so glad that you were born. You're a total BAMF.

Love,
Me

Last night

was super fun. We had a dear friend over for dinner, tried new wines and a new beer, and just talked and laughed all night. Surely one of the greatest and most special experiences one can have is when one completely loses track of time and is just in the moment have a blast. Yoga is always talking about "being in the present" which is oddly difficult for me. But slowly I'm learning how to focus not on the past or future but be in the now and all that jazz.

Also FINALLY!!!! A place where you can get both car parts AND Halloween costumes.

And that wine (the Pinot) was. Re. Dic. U. Lous.

Catbird is killing me.

In, of course, the best way possible. Tiny delicate rings that pack a powerful punch and seem totally one of a kind are completely my jam . . . and catbirdnyc is freaking smuckers. I would commit many heinous crimes for any of these. As it stands I have a pathetic jar of quarters (that at this moment is technically virtual and nonexistant) that I am putting towards, essentially, $900 worth of gorgeous decorations for my digits. That is a LOT of quarters.

turquoise baguette ring
and the tiniest ruby ring way up top

seed ring in yellow gold. The setting is really neat, I dig how it's not pronged.

The dark side of the moon ring is my absolute most favorite ring. I don't care if it takes ten years to save up the money (no, it's not actually that expensive, we just have a budget, ya dig?) it WILL be on my finger one day. And I will love it. And never take it off. And cherish it. And gift it to future children/nieces or nephews.
-----it also comes in a gift set for only a few dollars more with a Deborah Lippman polish. YES!---

There are a million more (mignon memory ring, famous letter ring with my husbands initials, bateau ring, etc.) so someone out there should totally splurge on themselves. You are worth it!

It has been

a handful of tootsie roll kinda day.

Almond Croissant

It ranks right up there (for me) with eggs benedict, an omelette involving feta cheese, or a breakfast sandwich, meaning it is one of my most favorites. They are nearly impossible to find around here and I love them so! The wax paper bag only enhances the flavor I'm certain.
